What is reverse osmosis?
To start off learning what reverse osmosis is, we should first try to understand normal osmosis.
Normal osmosis is the movement of a substance across a semi-permeable layer/membrane. The substance moves from higher concentration to lower concentration in an effort to balance the concentration levels of the two compartments.
If you want to picture this affect on your body, imagine drinking very salty water. As the water is filtered throughout your body, because of the higher concentration of salt in the salt water, water would be extracted from your bloodstream and organs to help compensate for the concentration difference. This would cause your body to dehydrate and become severely sick.
Reverse osmosis uses the concept of osmosis and filters water through an extremely tiny filter. The water is filtered through and then pressured to go back. A lot of pressure is required, and it is very slow, but at the same time, it is also effective.
